According Joe HOUSER from Buck U.S.A., about the " BLACK " model : ..." i'm fairly certain that there are less than 20 of these in existance and would not be surprised if the number was actually less than 10. No records could be located and since it was made back in the 80's or possibly early 90's. No one remembers why Buck made them. It is possible that it was an attempt at making the 184 more like its cousin the M9 bayonet. It is also possible that it was an attempt to make a safer wire cutter for the bayonet itself.
